Acute Wound Management & Closure

The Acute Wound Management & Closure course is a 2-hour online and 6-hour face to face workshop designed to provide participants with knowledge and supervised practical skill experience in acute wound management & closure techniques. With a combination of online lectures and hands on practical. You will come away with the confidence and skills to be able to attend to uncomplicated wound management and wound repair utilising the simple and/or mattress suture.

Description

The Acute Wound Management & Closure course consists of two hours of online theory and six hours incorporating a variety of lectures and hands-on practice allowing maximum practice using suturing equipment and animal material simulating human skin.

Suitable for

Doctors, nurses and remote area healthcare professionals requiring up-skilling in basic wound management, simple suturing, wound adhesive and steri strip techniques.

Prerequisites

Employment in a clinical setting where suturing is required.

Continuing Education

  • NMBA: 8 CPD points for nurses and midwives. (2 hours e-learning, 6 hours workshop)
  • ACN endorsement pending

  • Anatomy of the skin
  • First aid/Burns
  • Wound Assessment and cleaning
  • Donning Surgical gloves and Aseptic Techniques
  • Suturing Techniques
  • Non-suture closure options
  • Demonstration and practice of suturing and wound closure techniques
  • Overview of how to choose the correct type of dressing for the type of wound
