The Blood Collection course is a combined online theoretical with a 3-hour hands-on practical

activity to reinforce the online learning providing participants the knowledge and skills required to perform this procedure. Ample practice is provided using the Vacutainer blood collection system, with realistic training arms.

Course content

  • Small group teaching covers:
    • Anatomy of the upper limb identifying vessels indicated for blood taking
    • Demonstration and practice into a life-like cannulation arm using aseptic technique.
    • Choice of the type and size of access systems, site choice and patient preparation.
    • Clinical risks & complications
  • Assessment is both practical and written with a multiple-choice questionnaire.
